Today we ended the day with a write up of our project goals as the first phase of the design process. This is what my group has drafted so far for a theoretical eco-village development:

  • Our families and community grow in a loving and harmonious self-sustaining functional interconnected culture.
  • Celebration, admiration and gratitude for the immense diversity of ecological and human knowledge guide our vision towards a dynamic and harmonious community.
  • Patterns of sacred african fractal geometry guide our development of consciously resilient and flexible designs.
  • Our buildings, businesses, and community minimize risk from climate chaos, weather, and human threats, promoting peace of mind, healthy living and psychological, spiritual and physical healing for residents and visitors.
  • Our community contains a variety of fun and compellingly joyful elements.
  • Our surroundings inspire our ethics of earthcare, people care and resource sharing.
  • We come together with each other and visitors around focal points of a park, amphitheater, school, healing center, restaurant, market and variety of co-generating green businesses.
  • Our frequent celebrations and rituals of thanksgiving, planting, harvesting, generate a fountain of creativity and opportunities for displaying art and sharing local music and dance with visitors.
  • We knit strong bonds within our families and with our supportive surrounding community through recreation and food.
  • The natural rhythms of the island and our families, and animals provide all our energy needs.
  • We provide a model to the world and our community on how to thrive at every level without the use of fossil fuels.
  • Beautiful and efficient buildings, pathways, infrastructure & abundant food forests lay along the contours of the site maximizing solar energy, water capture, natural winds, shade and vistas.
  • Our lives and hearts feel light and uplifted waking up in the morning, walking our pathways, living our lives, working and a sense of purpose and empowerment permeate our vibe.
  • Residential space adequate for multiple generations to co-exist, grow and contract, help us all reach our optimal human potential.
  • Mulch, manure and compost  interwoven into the layout of our village promote the transmission and evolution of our regenerative culture.
  • Our amphitheater is surrounded by a sacred  “crazy ant” deterring grove of Cinnamon trees and other natural experimental pest control ideas from our communities permaculture think tank.
  • The community encompases a variety of green bussinesses, and a farmers and crafts market that supplyies and feeds homes, restaurants and tourist shops.
  • Functioning food forests and agroforestrey systems thrive with abundance of fruits, nuts, timber, and honey, perennial vegetables, medicinal herbs, forageb for our animals.
  • An abundance of edible fish, aquatic plants and wild life bring life to our pond near the front entrance and serves as a focal poit of beauty and a measure of safety
  • Our farmers incubator program supports dozens of farm apprentices learning and working towards self-sufficiency
  • Rotating around our communal and more private food forests, domestic animals like, poultry, rabbits, fish, goats, pigs, cattle, horses, donkeys,  live healthy lives, proving the community with food, soil fertility, and a multitude of benefits.
